In Soviet Russia, tank models YOU!

So it's been awhile, I've just been lazy posting new stuffs up but I've been doing some R&D at home (mostly rigging and workflow stuff).  I'm pretty sure you guys noticed already that I'm a bit of a military weapons nerd, and I'm not sure why I haven't done this already, but I've decided to model a tank.  I'm planning to fake a lot of detail using normal / displacement maps so I'm thinking of keeping the model somewhat medium weight.  Though my biggest challenge is figuring out a good way to rig those tank threads - I figure it needs to be a sort of "rubber band" style setup but I have no idea at this point.  Anyhoo, if anybody cares, this is a real tank, a Russian T54/55, some references here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-54/55

  1. Why pick a obsolete 1960's Soviet tank to model you ask? I kinda like that pre-modern war era and plus I thought it might be more rare (there's plenty of people who've done US M1 Abrams, M4 Shermans, and German Tigers, why not deliberately pick a tank-enthusiast's nerdy favorite?). This guy's just as popular as the AK47 in third world countries...

  2. I'm glad to see something other than organic on here. Very nice, there's just some sort of aesthetic charm to the armory of that era and it's al in that tank. The round corners shader will work pretty good at your geo intersections and some battle damage surfacing, commy logo will be a nice extra although it stands on its own as a cool model. Dip it in water, BATTLE DAMAGE!

  4. Mr. Ramsay! Nice man, of all the WWII tanks, next to a few of the Geraman Tigers, the russian tanks were the next best. US and British tanks sucked balls big time. Im a big WWII nerd myselfand as soon as I saw this I was thinking it looked Russian. Very cool man looking forward to seeing it all tricked out.
